Academics

Students read widely, write with purpose, and communicate with confidence. Through literature, contemporary texts, and research projects, they deepen their understanding, refine analytical writing, and develop persuasive speaking skills aligned with PA Core standards. We emphasize real-world literacy — connecting reading and writing to issues that matter in students’ lives.

Our math curriculum strengthens conceptual understanding and real-world application. Students explore algebra, geometry, statistics, and applied problem-solving while building reasoning and quantitative thinking skills that prepare them for future study and meaningful work.

Our secondary science program is grounded in the Next Generation Science Standards and emphasizes learning through investigation and inquiry. Students explore real-world phenomena, analyze data, and build scientific understanding across biology, chemistry, physics, and environmental science. The focus is on developing critical thinking, problem-solving skills, and confidence in using evidence to make sense of the world. 

Science at our school is active, engaging, and rooted in the Next Generation Science Standards. Students learn by doing through experiments, observation, and exploration of real-world problems. Our goal is to help students think like scientists by fostering curiosity, problem-solving skills, and a love of discovery.

Students study history, government, and economics through multiple perspectives to understand the world and their place within it. With an emphasis on civic responsibility, media literacy, and critical analysis, they grow into thoughtful, informed participants in a global society.

Electives provide students with opportunities to explore passions and broaden their learning experience. Through hands-on and engaging courses, students build skills, confidence, and curiosity while discovering new interests and strengths. Electives include:

Our World Language program introduces students to new languages and cultures in meaningful and engaging ways. Students build listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills while developing confidence in communication. Through interactive activities and cultural exploration, students gain a deeper understanding of the world and its people.

Our health and fitness program follows national standards, promoting lifelong wellness, teamwork, and leadership. As proud members of the Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association (PIAA) and Penn-Jersey Athletic Association, students compete with determination, sportsmanship, and pride.

Our outdoor education program gives students the chance to learn, explore, and connect with nature right on our campus. From hands-on science investigations to creative projects and team challenges, the outdoors becomes an extension of the classroom.

Beyond academics, students explore their interests through electives, service learning, and leadership opportunities. Individualized transition planning, internships, and vocational experiences help each graduate leave MLS ready to thrive — confident, capable, and connected to their future path.
