Early literacy is grounded in the science of reading, helping students master phonics, vocabulary, and comprehension through authentic texts that invite thinking, talking, reading, and writing every day.

Aligned with the PA Core Standards, students develop both fluency and understanding — learning to see math as a tool for problem-solving and discovery.

Using the Next Generation Science Standards, children investigate the world around them by asking questions, testing ideas, and thinking like scientists.

Students explore communities, geography, and history through stories and experiences that build empathy and awareness of multiple perspectives.

The Counseling Program at Martin Luther School helps students grow not only academically, but socially and emotionally as well. Our counselors use the research-based WhyTry curriculum and teach lessons directly in the classroom. These lessons help students learn important life skills like handling emotions, making good choices, building confidence, and showing respect for others. Counseling lessons also support our school’s core values, giving students tools they can use every day—at school, at home, and in their relationships.

Our librarian sources current books and best practices in this area. All classes have equal access to both regularly scheduled library time as well as research opportunities.

Creative expression flourishes as students sing, play instruments, and experiment with a range of visual media.

Our outdoor education program gives students the chance to learn, explore, and connect with nature right on our campus. From hands-on science investigations to creative projects and team challenges, the outdoors becomes an extension of the classroom.

Movement, teamwork, and healthy habits are built through active games and fitness activities that promote lifelong wellness.

SEL Lab is a special class that helps students learn how to understand their feelings, manage emotions, and work well with others. Using the Zones of Regulation program, students build self-regulation skills through engaging, hands-on activities and cooperative learning. Students also strengthen fine motor and gross motor skills as part of each lesson. SEL Lab is led by MLS Occupational Therapists who support students in a caring, structured environment that helps them grow socially, emotionally, and physically.
